Mailbox stays disabled after being reconnected to a user
Issue
You’ve disconnected a mailbox from a user and are now trying to reconnect it.
Whenever you login to Outlook Web Access (OWA – Webmail) you get an error message like the one below.
Exception message: Cannot open mailbox /o=first organization/ou=exchange administrative group (GROUP_ID)/cn=recipients/cn=CANONICAL_NAME
When you check the mailbox status…
Get-MailboxDatabase | Get-MailboxStatistics | where {$_.DisconnectReason -ne $null} | ft displayname,database,disconnectreason -auto
It says the mailbox is still disabled.
DisplayName Database DisconnectReason ----------- -------- ---------------- Alan Reid MB-HO-01 Disabled
Solution
A mailbox cleanup will most luckily do the trick
Get-MailboxDatabase | Clean-MailboxDatabase
