Shutdown or Reboot a Synology NAS remotely using SSH
Issue
You need to shutdown or restart a Sinology NAS but you cannot access the web interface. You could also need to do it from a script.
Solution
Windows
Download plink.exe from this location : https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html
Make sure to replace root by the proper username, put the correct password (instead of password) and also the change the IP address to the one assigned to the NAS.
Old NAS (5.0 and earlier)
Shutdown
plink.exe -ssh -pw password root@192.168.1.2 poweroff
Reboot
plink.exe -ssh -pw password root@192.168.1.2 reboot
Newer NAS
Shutdown
plink.exe -ssh -pw password root@192.168.1.2 shutdown -h
Reboot
plink.exe -ssh -pw password root@192.168.1.2 shutdown -r
GNU\Linux and Mac
Shutdown
ssh -t -p password root@192.168.1.2 "poweroff"
Reboot
ssh -t -p password root@192.168.1.2 "reboot"
